• You just can't beat the lightning storms that form around Tucson, Arizona during the monsoon. I was jumping up and down for joy in the middle of the desert after this strike or strikes. I am not sure if both bolts hit at the same time or if there was a fraction of a second in between them. The total exposure was 15 seconds set at 43mm with an ISO of 100 at f/6.3. The bolt hit at 9:34pm on July 27, 2014. I am in the process of editing down the rest of the pictures along our 5,050 mile road trip from late July. Tucson wasn't the only incredible stop along the journey, but it was one of my favorites. August 2014 photo of the month.

 • My first hike in Ohio turned out looking a lot like a spring hike in the Ozark Mountains. This is lower falls of Old Man's Cave in the Hocking Hills. If the photo looks a bit hazy, it is because I took the picture in the middle of a strong thunderstorm. I could only snap a couple pictures before I took off and BOOM! The crashes of thunder rolled up and down the rolling hills. I love that sound! This photo was taken on April 28, 2012. May 2012 photo of the month.

 • A winter storm moves out and the first beams of light poke through the clouds as the mighty Hawksbill Crag stands firmly in all its glory. Part of me doesn't like this photo because it is such an injustice to the scene that God himself was putting on right in front of us. Picture was taken on February 14, 2012. • Frost zaps what is left of the green and yellow signs of life in a meadow. The fall colors will soon fade away into another white and grey season of cold and snow in the coming weeks and months. The last glimpses of fall color are just as special as the first signs of spring life that will reappear in April. December 2013 photo of the month.

 • October 2010 photo of the month. This picture was taken on September 10, 2010 and shows the bottom of the 51 foot waterfall and emerald pool below.

This waterfall is called Bingham Hollow Falls and was just discovered. Brian Emfinger found the falls in the middle of July 2010. Since that point Tim Ernst has made 3 trips to document and photograph this waterfall and is publishing the results in his new waterfall book later next year. So it won't be long before its location is made public. As Brain and I were resting at the top of the falls a black bear got within 20 feet of us before both the bear and us realized what was going on. I am sure the bear hasn't seen anybody at this spot before.

 • This has turned out to be one of my favorite lightning shots of the year. It is a stack of 14 individual photos that were taken around 1:40 am on August 31st 2013. The image has at least 17 cloud to ground lightning strikes in it over an 84 second time span. As the summer slips away, and fall approaches it is harvest time for certain crops in the area. It has been great year for gardeners and farmers alike.
My plan was to frame the pictures up with the Ottawa Lake Co-Op grain elevator in the foreground. I didn't actually think the storm was going to cooperate, but it did. It developed behind me by a few miles and traveled overhead before traveling towards Toledo, Ohio and exploding in strength. September 2013 photo of the month.

 • A four hour display of lightning lit up the night sky after midnight on June 3, 2010. The pictures were taken between Springdale and Sonora, AR looking toward Rogers, AR. You could see transformers blowing up every once in a while due to the lightning.

My favorite shot of the night and one of my better shots ever. This picture only captured 1/3 of the lightning that took place. Two more close bolts occurred to the right of this picture. It was awesome, but to close for comfort. The lightning was about 1/4 of a mile away. After this shot I headed back to the truck. Picture is the July 2010 photo of the month.

 • Patience isn't something I am great at, but I am trying. This picture is a sincere reminder that patiences does pay off. I have been looking for an opportunity to take lightning pictures over Lake Michigan for 9 years. I finally got my chance the other night, just to watch the storms die right before my eyes. In nearly 500 shots for a few hours on the lake I got 2 with lightning and this was one of them. If that wasn't enough of a life lesson, this was the only lightning the pop up "shower" produced. The storm only had one lightning strike and it was a spectacular double-strike. If you only have one shot in life, one chance, one opportunity, anything is possible with God's help. At first, I thought I wasted a night's sleep for one decent picture...but perhaps it was also a life lesson that was much more valuable. Picture was taken in Michigan city, IN on June 15th, 2013. July 2013 photo of the month.

 • Sometimes there aren't any words. This epic thunderstorm produced one of the best light shows I have ever seen. Lightning was striking anything that was standing near our home. Even though I was inside my garage taking this picture, I still prayed for safety moments before this shot. You could feel the power, strength, and love of God in those moments. It was a gift just to be there! This picture was taken early on June 15, 2011. Shortly before and after this shot, two cars were struck by lightning near my home sounding the car alarms.
