  • This set of photos is from on board the Bristol Bay ice breaker as it was clearing a path out of the ice for shipping traffic on Lake Saint Clair. Pictures were taken on February 6, 2014. The captain said the ice has only been this dense one other time in the past 30 years. March photo of the month.

  • While 95% of Lake Erie is covered in ice, a small section opened up due to winds and currents near the Marblehead, Ohio area. The winds are now driving this ice up to shore. The dense compressed ice is radiating with a glacier blue I have never seen on the lakes before. The piles of ice are more than 10 feet high in spots.
